HEALTH & SAFETY SUPPORT

Health & Safety support that makes risk easier to manage.

Practical, retained support for employers who want to understand what matters, put sensible controls in place and keep their Health & Safety arrangements working.

As part of the retained service, Harrington Raine acts as your external competent person, with unlimited day-to-day advice, an on-site audit and report, a bespoke Health & Safety policy, a general workplace risk assessment and ongoing legal and HSE updates.

Competent advice. Practical support. Clear next steps.

PRACTICAL RISK MANAGEMENT

Health & Safety should control risk — not create paperwork.

A policy folder does not make a workplace safer. Good Health & Safety management means understanding where meaningful risks sit, deciding what needs attention and putting controls in place that work in practice.

Focus on what matters.

Not every issue carries the same level of risk. We help you identify the priorities and deal with them in the right order.

Controls that fit the business.

The right measures need to be sensible, proportionate and workable for the people expected to follow them.

Documentation with a purpose.

Policies and risk assessments should support what happens in practice — not exist simply to fill a file.

RETAINED HEALTH & SAFETY SUPPORT

The Health & Safety fundamentals, properly managed.

Our retained service gives employers the core advice, documentation and oversight needed to manage everyday workplace Health & Safety with greater confidence.

External competent person

Harrington Raine acts as your external competent person, providing competent Health & Safety advice to support the way your business manages workplace risk.

Unlimited day-to-day advice

Ask as many Health & Safety questions as you need by telephone or email. You get a clear answer, a recommended next step and support when issues arise.

On-site Health & Safety audits

We review your workplace and existing arrangements on site, then provide a written report identifying gaps, priorities and the actions we recommend.

Bespoke Health & Safety policy

We prepare a Health & Safety policy for your business rather than simply providing a generic template, helping make responsibilities and arrangements clear.

General workplace risk assessment

We prepare a general workplace risk assessment focused on the significant hazards, existing controls and further action needed within your business.

Ongoing legal and HSE updates

Where relevant changes to Health & Safety law or HSE guidance affect your arrangements, we help you understand what has changed and what, if anything, needs to be done.

HEALTH & SAFETY AUDIT

Know where the gaps are. Know what matters first.

An audit gives you a clear view of how your Health & Safety arrangements are working in practice — what is already in place, where attention is needed and what should be prioritised.

01

Review the workplace

We visit your workplace to review the working environment, existing arrangements and the way Health & Safety is being managed in practice.

02

Identify the gaps

We look for significant weaknesses, missing controls and areas where documentation or working practices need attention.

03

Prioritise the action

You receive a written report setting out what we found, what we recommend and which actions should be dealt with first.

04

Keep the position moving

The audit is not intended to become a report that sits in a folder. Your retained advice service is there to help you work through the findings and keep arrangements under review.

Advice is only useful if you can act on it.

Good Health & Safety advice should leave you knowing what needs to change and what happens next. We help turn that advice into clear actions, practical controls and the documentation agreed within your service.

We handle the core drafting.

Your retained service includes a bespoke Health & Safety policy and general workplace risk assessment. Where further documentation is agreed as part of your service, we prepare it rather than leaving you with a list of documents to create yourself.

Clear advice. Clear responsibilities.

You should know what needs to change, what should be prioritised and what happens next. We help make the practical steps clear for the managers and people responsible for putting them into place.

Keep the written position connected to reality.

Workplaces change. Your retained advice service gives you somewhere to turn when arrangements, working practices or risks change, so the documentation and the way the business operates do not drift apart.

ONGOING HEALTH & SAFETY SUPPORT

Health & Safety does not stand still.

People change. Workplaces change. Equipment, processes and working arrangements change. Good Health & Safety management needs to keep pace.

Advice when you need it.

Your retained service gives you unlimited day-to-day Health & Safety advice by telephone and email. When a question arises, you have competent advice available without needing to find a consultant and agree a new piece of work first.

Someone owns the relationship.

Your Primary Advisor understands your business and owns the overall relationship, supported by the wider Harrington Raine team so straightforward questions do not wait unnecessarily.

Keep up with what changes.

We keep you informed of relevant Health & Safety legal and HSE developments and help you understand whether anything needs to change within your own arrangements.

ADDITIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY SUPPORT

When you need more, we scope it properly.

The retained service is designed around general workplace Health & Safety.

Where your business needs additional visits, assessments, training, project support or more specialist input, we establish what is required and agree the scope and cost before work begins.

Additional visits and assessments

Extra site visits, Health & Safety audits and on-site support can be added where your business has additional locations or needs more frequent input.

RAMS & task-specific assessments

We can prepare additional risk assessments, method statements and other task-specific documentation where work falls outside your general workplace risk assessment.

COSHH assessments

Where hazardous substances are used, additional COSHH assessments can be prepared to identify the risks and establish appropriate controls.

Fire risk assessments

Fire risk assessments can be provided separately where required, with the scope agreed according to the premises and circumstances.

Health & Safety training

Practical training can be arranged for managers and employees, including subjects such as risk assessment, COSHH, manual handling and fire safety.

Incidents & regulator support

If an accident, RIDDOR issue or enforcing-authority matter arises, we can provide additional support and agree the work required according to the circumstances.

HEALTH & SAFETY SUPPORT

Put the right level of Health & Safety support behind your business.

Our retained Health & Safety service gives you the core advice, documentation and ongoing support needed to manage general workplace risk — with additional requirements agreed around the way your business operates.

A clear retained service

Your core service includes unlimited day-to-day advice, external competent-person support, on-site audits and reporting, a bespoke Health & Safety policy, a general workplace risk assessment and relevant legal and HSE updates.

Scope it around the business

The number of locations, frequency of audits and any additional recurring support, such as assessments, training or project work, can be agreed before the service starts and reflected in your ongoing fee.

Visible reassurance

Retained clients receive a certificate confirming:

“This organisation retains Harrington Raine for Health & Safety support.”

It confirms that professional Health & Safety support is in place without suggesting that the business has been certified, accredited or declared compliant.

Straight answers to some of the practical questions businesses ask about Harrington Raine’s Health & Safety service.

What does Harrington Raine's retained Health & Safety service include?

The core service includes unlimited day-to-day Health & Safety advice by telephone and email, external competent-person support, on-site auditing and reporting, a bespoke Health & Safety policy, a general workplace risk assessment and relevant legal and HSE updates.

The scope can also be adjusted to reflect your locations, audit requirements and any additional recurring support your business needs.

Not necessarily. Employers need access to competent Health & Safety assistance, but that competence can exist within the business.

External support can be particularly useful where you do not have sufficient Health & Safety expertise internally, want independent oversight of your arrangements or need ongoing advice without employing a dedicated Health & Safety professional.

Harrington Raine provides that support through an external competent-person relationship, backed by advice, audits and core documentation.

UK employers are required to appoint one or more competent people to help them meet their Health & Safety duties. A competent person needs sufficient skills, knowledge and experience to recognise workplace hazards and help put sensible controls in place.

That person can be you, someone within your business or an external adviser. If you do not have sufficient competence in-house, Harrington Raine can act as your external competent person as part of the retained service, giving you ongoing advice and support.

The legal responsibility for managing Health & Safety remains with the employer.
